A new phase in my life – the journey evolves

By | June 30, 2017

Since my last post, I have noticed something very different about my relationship with tinnitus.  I am almost ignoring it now.  I still hear it but I have not been trying to focus on it.  I do not mean I don’t notice when it changes, but it is just there. However, I have noticed it seems to have changed. I think it is responding to my efforts. I am not meditating much as I thought I was going to.  This lack of paying active attention to my tinnitus is almost a polar opposite to my meditation technique in which I meditate on my ringing.  Let me be clear, I am not intentionally ignoring my tinnitus, I am just not paying attention to it.  The difference is subtle but significant.

So what have I been doing lately.

I am still taking supplements.  As I mentioned in my last post, I purchased some vincopetine, but I have only taken it about three times.  I have no specific reason except I just do not feel like it.  Sometimes your body I smarter than you are.  Here is what I am taking (please note that some of my links are affiliate links; however, I have or do take everything I am linked to in this article):

  • 3 g taurine (2g in the morning, 1 g in the evening.).  I am currently taking the Swanson Vitamins Brand. It is available at Amazon.com Swanson Taurine 500 mg 100 Caps.  I take 6 of these capsules per day. I have been taking taurine for about a couple years now and I personally have not noticed any adverse effects.  I have read articles it can be beneficial in many ways including cardiac issues.  Please consult your medical doctor about taking any supplements.  I have alternated amongst brands more out of convenience than because of effectiveness.
  • 2000 iu vitamin D3 in the morning.  I am currently taking a Target brand.
  • 400 mg  chelated magnesium – in the evening.  I used to take just 133 mg to 266 mg but now I take 3 capsules.  This is the Swanson Vitamin brand I take  Swanson Ultra Albion Chelated Magnesium Glycinate Mineral Supplement, 133 mg, 180 Capsules .  It does not upset my stomach at all.  I take it at night or in the evening.
  • 720 mg turmeric along with 10 mg of Bioperine to help with absorption – black pepper in the evening. I started taking turmeric after reading about its potential affect on ion channel effectiveness.  The article I read was about cancer, but I started researching turmeric in regards to its impact on tinnitus which I think it is related to the ion channels in our nervous system.  This is the magnesium I am taking  Swanson Premium Turmeric 720 Mg 240 Caps .  I take 3 capsules per day in the evening.
  • 1200 mg of fish oil which has about 360 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids in the evening.  I take this because I think that fatty acids help in the effectives of our neurons and myelin.  I take a generic product I buy from Aldi.  I also eat flaxseed seeds.  I am very functional so I pour some in my hand and eat them.  Be careful if you do this as you do not want the seeds to go down your windpipe.  You can also eat them in yogurt etc.  They get caught in your teeth sometimes too.
  • Probiotic in the morning.  I take a product called Digestive Advantage.  I am lactose intolerant and this product has been effective for many years for me.  I do not know if it affects my tinnitus, but I am mentioning it here since it is part of my regimen.  This is the product I buy. I have it on auto-order for every three months.  Digestive Advantage Probiotics Lactose Defense Formula Dietary Supplement (32 Capsules Each, Pack of 3)

I have also significantly changed my diet.  Over the past 4 weeks, I have basically stopped eating the following

  • bread, pasta, rice, cakes, potatoes and the like
  • candy and chocolate
  • milk including yoghurt for the most part. I have eaten a spoonful of plain yoghurt a couple times
  • fruit
  • beverages except water. plain tea, black coffee and the occasional glass of red wine. I do drink protein powder Muscle Milk to get additional protein.  We had some in our pantry which is why I started to drink it. Once I use it all up, I may just buy a generic brand, but I have to say I like the flavor of it.  This is what I am currently using  Muscle Milk Genuine Protein Powder, Vanilla Crème, 32g Protein, 4.94 Pound

except on Saturday, on which I allow myself to eat whatever I want.  I have discovered though my desire to eat the above products has diminished tremendously .

So, I eat a lot of protein including eggs, meat, beans, sardines, pork, chicken, and protein powder, vegetables especially spinach, sauerkraut and tomatoes, nuts (I used to eat a lot but cut back), and almond and peanut butter.

I am not doing this for my tinnitus, but I am doing it to lose body fat especially the not so visible body fat.  I am very focused and so I switched my diet pretty fast four weeks ago and have adjusted my eating style as I have gone along over the weeks.  However, you should consult your medical doctor before trying this way of eating.  I am not recommending it to anyone.

I am basing my approach to eating on Tim Ferriss’ Slow Carb Diet.  This is Tim Ferriss’ book The 4 Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Superhuman which includes the Slow Carb Diet. Again, I am not eating this way to try to cure my tinnitus, but I wanted to mention it as it is impacted what I am choosing to eat and also my weight and body fat percentage.

I am continuing my journey to cure my tinnitus. I feel like I have stepped into a rhythm of taking my supplements consistently. I know my tinnitus is there but I am not trying to measure it although I do pay attention to when it seems to change in pattern.

I will cure my tinnitus.

Please leave a comment and I will do my best to respond.

Sorry Dan. I will begin updating my journey soon. I still have tinnitus, but have not given up on curing myself. I have become even more accustomed to it, but I know that the frequency interferes with my hearing.

I have been reading your blogs. You are working so hard to get rid of your tinnitus and are so positive. I got it 6 months ago and i feel it is destroying my life. I will continue to read your blogs and hope you find the cure.

Hi Deb, Thanks for your note. Sorry it has been awhile since I posted as you can see. I will start posting again shortly. I still have tinnitus, but have not given up on curing myself. I have to say I have become quite accustomed to it, not saying it does not interfere with my hearing. I hope you are doing better. I am sorry that it has been a difficult experience for you.
